Location: Nyack, NY | Service: Bathroom Remodeling | Budget: $78,000 | Duration: 7 weeks
A 127-year-old Nyack Victorian had an original 1920s bathroom with non-standard dimensions and aging infrastructure. We modernized all systems while preserving the original character.
A 1897 Victorian in Nyack with an original bathroom that had been updated in the 1920s. Non-standard dimensions, a mix of original cast iron drains (still serviceable) and galvanized supply lines (needed full replacement). Homeowners required period-appropriate character to be preserved.
Full galvanized supply line replacement to PEX. Cast iron drain stack retained. Walk-in shower conversion with hex mosaic tile floor and 3x6 subway tile surround. Vintage-look chrome fixtures with cross handles. Floating double vanity in navy-painted wood with marble top. Original cast iron radiator sandblasted and repainted — retained as functional design element. Orangetown permit filed at contract signing; approved in 3 weeks.
The bathroom reads as a careful restoration. All mechanical work is entirely new behind period-appropriate surfaces. Inspection sign-off received. A functional modern bathroom indistinguishable in character from the home's original era.
Rockland Design Factory walked in, identified which walls were original and which were additions, and proposed a plan that modernized the kitchen while preserving every original architectural detail we cared about.
