The owners of this Tappan colonial had a master bathroom that felt nothing like a retreat — a small tub/shower combo, a single vanity, and dated tile from the early 1990s. They wanted to invest in a full transformation: a walk-in shower, a freestanding soaking tub, double vanity, and heated floors.
We gutted the space entirely, including removing a tub that had been built into a platform, to reconfigure the layout and fit both a separate shower and a freestanding tub. The new layout places the shower along one wall with a full frameless glass enclosure, and the freestanding Kohler Réservoir tub sits beneath a window — exactly what they envisioned.
The shower tile is a 12×24 Calacatta marble-look porcelain, floor-to-ceiling, with a built-in niche shelf and a linear drain recessed into the floor for a sleek finish. The same tile carries out onto the bathroom floor. Before tile went in, we installed a Schluter Ditra-Heat electric radiant heating system throughout — the homeowners said the heated floors alone were worth the renovation.
The double vanity is 60 inches in satin white with a quartz top and undermount sinks. All fixtures are Moen Gibson in matte black for a consistent, contemporary look. Permits filed with Orangetown. Completed in 5 weeks.
