Project Story

The owners of this 1920s craftsman in Nyack came to us with a wish list that reflected the character of their home: custom cabinetry with real craftsmanship, natural stone surfaces, and materials that felt period-appropriate without being dated. The existing kitchen had been remodeled in the early 2000s and was ready to be done right.

This was a full gut project. We stripped everything back to plaster and subfloor, rerouted the plumbing to relocate the sink from an interior wall to the window wall (a significant improvement in both light and the view while cooking), and updated all electrical circuits.

The cabinetry is fully custom: inset face-frame construction with furniture-style feet on the base cabinets, painted in an off-white custom mix, and fitted with period-appropriate hardware in polished nickel. Crown molding runs from the top of the uppers all the way to the ceiling for a built-in look.

Countertops are honed Carrara marble — a classic choice for this era of home that the homeowners felt strongly about. We sealed them properly and educated the homeowners on care; the natural patina over time is part of the charm.

A custom plaster range hood was built on-site to surround a 36-inch professional range, and the backsplash uses hand-painted ceramic field tile that references the original tile work found elsewhere in the house. Permits were filed with the Village of Nyack Building Department. 10-week timeline.
