How to Compare Cabinet Quotes: A Line-by-Line Checklist
Compare cabinet quotes using the same measured layout, cabinet quantities, door style, finish and written scope. Check construction, storage fittings, delivery, installation, tax, exclusions and warranty terms separately. A lower total is only meaningful when both proposals cover equivalent products and responsibilities. Ask for unclear items to be explained before ordering.

Compare the same scope, not just the total
Two cabinet quotes can describe different products and different responsibilities. Use the same room layout, cabinet quantities and requested finish when comparing proposals. This checklist is planning guidance, not a product specification, price promise or construction contract.
1. Identify the cabinets
Ask each supplier to name the manufacturer, collection, door style, finish, box material, drawer construction and hardware. Request written specifications for the actual line being quoted. Terms such as “custom” or “solid wood” do not describe every part of a cabinet.
2. List every included item
- Cabinet boxes, doors, drawer fronts and drawers
- Fillers, finished ends, panels, toe kicks and moldings
- Handles, hinges, drawer slides and storage accessories
- Countertops, sinks and appliances, if included
Mark each item included, excluded or unclear. An unclear item needs a written answer before totals can be compared.
3. Assign responsibilities
Confirm who takes final field measurements, checks appliance clearances, supplies the design drawings, receives deliveries and performs installation. Ask whether demolition, disposal, site protection, plumbing, electrical work and permits are included or separately contracted. Request applicable licensing information for each regulated trade.
4. Check timing and terms
Ask for the current lead time for the exact product, how delivery dates are confirmed, and what happens if a component arrives damaged. Review payment terms, change-order procedures, warranty documents, return restrictions, taxes and any allowances. Do not assume a showroom sample or website illustration establishes these terms.
5. Bring the comparison to a consultation
Bring your proposals, rough dimensions and room photos. Remove financial account numbers and unrelated personal information before uploading a document. You can send up to three quotes or images for review, use our planning worksheet, or book a free 60-minute showroom consultation.
Measurements from a homeowner worksheet are not approved for ordering. Confirm the final layout, dimensions and written scope with the responsible professionals.
FAQ
Questions people ask before visiting
Can I compare cabinet quotes by the final total alone?
Compare totals only after matching the layout, cabinet quantities, door style, finish, accessories and responsibilities. A cheaper total may reflect a different product or missing work.
Which costs should a cabinet quote separate?
Ask for the cabinet package, storage fittings, delivery, installation, tax and exclusions to be clear. Confirm written warranty terms and who performs final field measurements before ordering.
