How to Prepare for a Kitchen Design Consultation

Editorially reviewed planning guidance. Sources establish only the claims identified; confirm current product and project terms before committing.

Bring the room, your priorities and your questions

A useful kitchen design conversation starts with how you use the room. Before visiting, note what works, what does not, and what you hope to change. You do not need a finished design to request help.

Photograph the existing room

Take a wide view from each corner and close-ups of windows, doors, appliances and visible utility connections. Avoid including people, mail, financial documents or other private information. Photos help explain the room but cannot establish concealed conditions or code compliance.

Gather rough dimensions

Record wall lengths, ceiling height and opening locations in a consistent unit. Note appliance model numbers and the locations of existing sinks, outlets and vents without touching wiring or plumbing. Our interactive kitchen worksheet lets you organize a rectangular room plan, add openings and appliances, and export a reference sheet. Professional field measurements are required before ordering.

Set priorities

  • Storage problems and the items you need to accommodate
  • How many people cook, gather or move through the room
  • Accessibility needs you want considered
  • Cabinet styles, finishes and materials you want to compare
  • Your budget range, timing preferences and decisions that remain open

Clarify the proposed scope

Ask which design work, materials, installation tasks and permits a proposal includes. Confirm responsibilities for regulated trades, final dimensions, product approvals and changes in writing. Product availability, permit review and construction timing depend on the specific project; a consultation does not guarantee a delivery or completion date.

Plan your showroom visit

Rockland Design Factory is at 437 US-9W, Congers, NY 10920. The initial 3D consultation and showroom visit is free and lasts 60 minutes. Online appointments are offered Monday–Friday 9 AM–5 PM and Saturday 10 AM–3 PM, New York time. Sundays are by separate arrangement. These appointment windows are distinct from public walk-in hours.

Choose an available showroom appointment or send your existing quote and planning notes. A quote-review submission is an inquiry, not a confirmed appointment or binding price.
