Make the decisions in the right order

Bring room measurements, photos and appliance model numbers. Decide whether you need cabinets only or a complete remodel, and compare equivalent layouts, construction, installation and written exclusions.

Seasonal planning

Choose a preferred construction window, then work backward through design, selections, ordering and permit review. Holidays, material availability and your household schedule can affect timing; a desired season is not a promised start date.

Spring and summer: Start design and cabinet selection before choosing a construction date. Ask your town's building department which permits your project needs and how long review takes. Permit approval and supplier delivery dates vary; an early consultation is not a delivery guarantee.

Fall and winter: Discuss delivery access, snow and ice clearance, indoor material storage, dust containment, and a temporary cooking or bathing plan. Confirm product-specific temperature and humidity requirements with your installer before materials arrive.

Prepare your household

Agree on access, dust protection, working hours and how you will use the home while the kitchen or bathroom is unavailable. Put the scope, payment schedule, product selections and change-order process in writing.
