Full gut kitchen remodel in New City, NY — open-concept layout conversion, white shaker cabinets, Calacatta quartz island, subway tile backsplash. See the complete project details.
This New City, NY homeowner had lived with a closed-off, galley-style kitchen in their 1972 colonial for years. The layout made it impossible to cook and engage with family, and the original oak cabinets were showing their age. They came to us with a clear goal: open the kitchen up to the dining room, modernize the finishes, and add a large island for both prep space and casual seating.
The scope was a full gut renovation. We removed everything down to the studs and subfloor, then worked with our structural engineer to safely take out a load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room. A new laminated beam now spans the opening, giving the homeowners the open-concept flow they wanted.
Cabinets are semi-custom white shaker with 42-inch uppers that reach the ceiling — maximizing storage in the process. The island is topped with a Calacatta quartz slab with a mitered waterfall edge on one side, creating a dramatic focal point. The perimeter countertops are the same Calacatta quartz for a cohesive look.
A 3×6 white subway tile backsplash in a classic brick pattern adds texture without competing with the quartz. We also installed 5-inch wide-plank white oak hardwood throughout, replacing the old vinyl floor and matching the existing hardwood in the dining room.
Permits were filed with and approved by Clarkstown Building Department. Final inspection passed. Timeline from demo to final punch-list: 7 weeks.
